Undoubtedly, it's most famous
pizzeria in the world!
Our story begins in 1973... when the Zelepos family bought a pizza shop on historic Main Street in Mystic, CT. They named the place "Mystic Pizza," and began serving the hungry locals and tourists. Mystic Pizza became very popular.
Of course, the real reason behind our success is the pizza. So tempting and addicting is Mystic Pizza, that the crowds grew and grew...
And then one day, Hollywood came to town!!!! Incredibly, our little pizza shop caught the eye of a Los Angeles screen writer named Amy Jones. The movie was filmed on location in Mystic and neighboring towns. When "Mystic Pizza" was released in 1988, it was a huge hit! Even Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs up.
Meanwhile, back in Mystic, the little pizza shop could barely keep up with demand. Customers lined the sidewalk, waiting to taste "A Slice of Heaven." Menus and matchbooks disappeared in amazing quantities. Outside on Main Street, cars dangerously avoided the pizza fans who straddled the yellow lines, angling for photos.
What could we do? We answered the hungry demand - and, in 1991, we opened Mystic Pizza II in nearby North Stonington, CT. Located on a road noted for heavy beach and casino traffic, this shop now thrives!
In 1996, the original Mystic Pizza underwent a serious facelift. The laundromat was closed next door, walls were blown out and the restaurant doubled its capacity. We added the ever important handicap accessible entrance. There are now separate rooms for takeout and eating-in. But don't worry, there are still plenty of reminders of the old pizza shop...
If you are planning a trip to Mystic, you will surely want to stop by and visit us. Our walls are adorned with movie photos and articles from local and national publications, and the waitresses still wear the now famous "Slice of Heaven" t-shirts.
Our restaurants serve more than just pizza and smiles. We have homemade soups, Italian dinners, fresh seafood, tantalizing sandwiches and great appetizers!
So come and visit! Mystic Pizza is one of the areas hottest tourist stops. No reservations are needed.
